Our client received a call from someone who asked ChatGPT to recommend a flat-roof specialist. We break down exactly what on the site makes AI cite it.

Tuesday, 2:37 PM. The phone rings at MK DEK — a flat-roof specialist near Lublin, Poland, and a client of ours. The number is unknown, so the owner expects a telemarketer. He picks up. The voice on the other end is nothing like what he expected: “Hello, ChatGPT recommended you when I asked about someone who can finish a terrace on a developer-grade build.” Silence. Then a laugh. Then a real job.

It wasn’t an accident. We built MK DEK’s site at Solidivo so AI models could cite it — that’s called AEO (Answer Engine Optimization).

What the client actually said#

The buyer was looking for a contractor for a terrace finish. He didn’t ask friends. He didn’t scroll Google. He opened ChatGPT and typed something simple: “Recommend me a reliable flat-roof and terrace specialist around Lublin.”

The answer included three companies. MK DEK was first. A short description: flat-roof specialty, balconies and terraces, Lublin region, their own portfolio of completed projects. Links — including to the site we run for them.

The client called without going through a contact form, without small talk, without hesitation. He already knew what MK DEK does, where they work and why he should hire that particular company. AI had already convinced him before he picked up the phone — the call was just closing the deal.

The owner told us plainly: “First time I ever had a client who didn’t ask me anything. He said he already knew.”

Why does ChatGPT recommend businesses in 2026?#

Because roughly 70% of all search queries in 2026 are handled by AI engines — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Bing Copilot. Users don’t scroll ten blue links anymore. They get a finished answer with three recommendations.

That’s where the work for a website begins.

According to a 2026 study by Evertune, the median page cited by ChatGPT has 941 words, 18 paragraphs and four H2 headings. Pages with properly implemented structured data (schema.org) are cited 2.8 times more often than pages without it. 44% of all citations come from the first 30% of the page — the part the user sees right after landing.

The conclusion is uncomfortable for any company that has invested in a “pretty” site without real content: if your page doesn’t directly answer the question “who does flat roofs near Lublin”, you don’t exist to ChatGPT. Your competitor — the one who does answer that question — does exist.

This is why the sites we build at Solidivo are written differently than they were before AI. The content is laid out so that a language model can quote one paragraph in isolation, without losing meaning.

Does this work for every industry?#

Yes — as long as your business can be described by a specific question. A plumber in Kraków? Works. A solar-panel electrician in Poznań? Works. A hair salon offering coloring services in Warsaw? Works.

It doesn’t work for businesses that don’t know what they do themselves. If your site says “comprehensive construction services, finishing, installations and more” — ChatGPT doesn’t know who to recommend you to either. The competitor who wrote “we specialize in gas installations in single-family homes” wins.

AEO doesn’t replace SEO — it builds on top of it. A site that does well in Google does well in ChatGPT too. A site invisible in Google won’t show up in AI answers either. The difference is that “being in Google” no longer cuts it — you have to be in the top three answers AI picks out of a thousand decent results.

What this means for your business#

Tuesday, 2:37 PM. A call. “ChatGPT recommended you to me.” More and more businesses will hear that sentence in 2026 and 2027 — or they won’t, because AI will recommend someone else.

Your website is no longer a digital business card. It’s the source AI pulls knowledge about your company from. If that source is unclear, inconsistent or empty — AI will take its knowledge from your competitor.

No. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews don't run ads inside their answers. They cite sites that answer a user's question precisely — and do so in a way large language models understand: clear structure, specific data, unambiguous answers right under each heading.

How long until my site starts getting cited by AI?

From what we see: first citations show up 3–6 months after publishing solid content with proper structure and schema. The stronger your brand is in Google (the more people type your company name), the faster AI begins to cite you.

Does this only work for large companies?

The opposite. AI tends to recommend specific specialists more readily than generic brands, because users ask specifically ("flat-roof specialist near Lublin", "emergency electrician London"). A small business with a narrow specialty and a well-written site beats a large generalist with empty pages.
